Young Leaders Symposium & Scholarship Opportunity

Young Leaders Symposium & Scholarship Opportunity

Our 8th Annual Young Leaders Symposium (YLS) will take place on Saturday, October 5 at the Pao Arts Center in Chinatown.

We’re also excited to present our annual scholarship opportunity. The winner will be announced at our 2019 YLS.

In collaboration with the WGBH Education Foundation, we are pleased to issue a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for an incoming or current college student to use towards their undergraduate education expenses. The AAC has two secondary scholarship awards each in the amount of $500. This scholarship is annually awarded to AAPI students who have demonstrated a strong sense of public service their communities.

Additionally, we have two scholarship awards in the amounts of $500 and $250, respectively. These scholarships were gifted to the Commission in 2019 by Asian American Commissioner, Mabel S. Lam, PhD, in memory of her mother, May Thin Suey-Lew Lam, and her father, Chuck Hai Lam. In the short 51 years of her life, May was a strong community supporter and advocate. In his long life of 89 years, Chuck assisted many families and friends who were immigrants. In honor of May and Chuck and their work, we will consider applications from high school seniors or college students who wish to continue their studies towards a career in health, human, or social services and/or in civic engagement. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated passion for giving back to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in Massachusetts.
